RECEnt works: 2018-2021
Over the past 3 years I have spent a great deal of time investigating my 10 years of travel to Greece and Turkey through painting. The works I have created bring to form my feelings of certain moments, events, places, and experiences. The paintings attempt to in one image bring into focus the textures, colors, lines, forms, objects, movements, energies, and feelings of that place and time. I start each painting not knowing where it will lead. Building up the surface of the panel or canvas first with acrylic paint and then layers of oil. As the surface builds shape relationships build up and begin to form which then lead me to think about a certain time and place. Each of the works are chaotic, peaceful, energetic, calm, moving, and layered all of which comes from what it feels to spend time in Greece. Travel in Greece and Turkey is beautiful, disordered, confusing, hectic, calming, and peaceful—all at once. Each of these pieces have these qualities in them in varying degrees.
